Though very different personalities, they were tight with one another. At 30-something, they find themselves living in Manhattan at the same time and plan a reunion of their secret club. Once they have caught up on their lives, they decide to maintain contact with one another to play racquetball. On one occasion at the court they befriend Raul Cabrera, a handsome and very prosperous Argentinian who is in the import-export business of antiquities and ancient relics. Raul invites his new buddies and their wives to a party at his luxurious Fifth Avenue penthouse apartment, where they meet Raul's exotic, sensuous, and beguiling Brazilian wife, Sasha. She wants to leave him but is afraid. Each of the buddies believes that he is special and will do whatever he can to protect her with the expectation that she will go off with him once she divorces Raul. They are willing to sacrifice their friendships, their marriages, and their careers for the sultry Sasha, each feeling that he is the chosen one. When Raul falls from the balcony of their opulent high-rise apartment at a party he hosted, the buddies become suspects. This research project plans to study the coupling promoting mechanism and related policies of strategic emerging industries and traditional industries under divergence of financial cycles and business cycles, under "New Normal" economy and interdependent globalization background. Through constructing multi-level dynamic factor analysis model, the study combines financial economic cycle theory, industry theory, economic growth theory, and their index system. Based on the EIU global macro database, CEIC database, Ceinet statistics database, national research on strategic information industry database, large sample data of China's industrial enterprises and customs import and export enterprises, the study will analyze the external and internal impact on strategic emerging industries and traditional industries, to reveal the importance of the research on the coordination of strategic emerging industries and traditional industries. Accordingly, the research analysis will put forward policy recommendations for the coupling promoting mechanism of strategic emerging industries and traditional industries, which has important theoretical significance and practical application value.
The life and times of Maritime entrepreneur Amos King Seaman (1788-1864) and Minudie s history (1686-1886) sheds new light on the new rural history s focus on tenant and/or labourer alienation, under-employment and exploitation during late 18th and 19th centuries. Amos Seaman, the Grindstone King , was a successful entrepreneurial pluralist who farmed, lumbered, built ships, sold goods at his store, and participated in the lucrative import-export trade with Britain, the West Indies and the United States. In addition to his construction of ships, Seaman also built wharves as well as the province s first steam-powered mill to support his diverse and integrated industries. Seaman s personal wealth was exemplified by Grindstone Castle where he and his family lived. In addition to this opulent mansion,Seaman s wealth also enabled him to maintain a second home,a town house in Boston, MA. He also built two churches and a one-room school house. Grindstones, which served a variety of domestic and commercial uses were the main commodities that Minudie s King exported to Britain, the West Indies and the United States. A series of events unfolded that ended Seaman's reign over Minudie,NS
The investigation was undertaken to assess the impact of WTO on external trade, the competitiveness and comparative advantage in exports, problems in exports and the measures taken to boost the foreign trade in selected agricultural commodities. The secondary data pertaining to quantity and value of selected agricultural commodities under exports and imports were collected for the periods i.e. Pre-WTO (1985-86 to 1994-95) and post-WTO (1995-96 to 2005-06) period. Study pointed out that during the post-WTO period the export and import of agricultural commodities was increased as compared to pre-WTO period. India has comparative advantage in export of rice, wheat, onion, grapes, coffee and pepper in World market. India has moderate competitiveness for the export of wheat, rice, onion, potato, grapes, mangoes and cashew kernels in World market. The study suggests that there is urgent need to divert the export of commodities from neighboring countries where, the price realization is less to the countries where the price realization is comparatively more. However, infrastructural facility play a key role in long run growth in export of agriculture commodities which is the need of hour.
Electronic waste is one of the fastest growing waste streams and is fast emerging a major challenge in urban areas. This book intends to provide insights into the emerging challenges of e-waste generation and management in Bangalore, the hub of IT industry. The book documents important aspects of e-waste management in Bangalore and adds to the knowledge and database. The findings highlight research issues, which are of critical importance. In Bangalore, E-waste management is largely unorganized besides being in the initial stages of working towards proper management. Survey indicated 226 informal enterprises as against 6 formal recycling units. There are no accurate estimates available on the quantity of e-waste generated and recycled. An increase in exported e-waste is exempted from basic customs duty, making it convenient for import of computers under EXIM policy 2000. However the legislation on Hazardous Waste Management and Handling Rules (Amended Rules 2003), puts restrictions on import and export of e-waste. The analysis will help policy makers and academicians working in waste management.
Using a Computable General Equilibrium (CGE) model, this study analyses the effects of globalisation on gender and the South African economy, disaggregated into 49 sectors. Three policies are analysed: full trade liberalisation, increased productivity, and liberalisation under Doha Round commitments. Trade liberalisation results in contraction of import-competing, labour-intensive sectors, resulting in job losses. Some losses are offset by increased employment demand in expanding export-oriented and service sectors. Skilled men gain the most and unskilled women the least due to their initial lower wages. All skill types, even unskilled women, experience growth of employment and improved earnings, they report greater autonomy and a sense of improved personal and household decision-making. Globalisation improves the welfare of both high-income households and poor-households. If world prices in agriculture increase under the Doha Round, production and exports of agricultural commodities such as maize increase, resulting in employment demand of all skill types for men and women, who then relocate from mining and manufacturing to the profitable agricultural sector.
On September 28, 2006, Ukrainian government introduced licensing of grain exports, which was afterwards replaced with a quota system. The paper adopts the partial equilibrium analysis for empirical evaluation of the effect of export quotas and taxes with 5%, 10%, 15% and 20% rates under the assumption of a small county case. For this purpose the paper provides the required domestic demand and supply, and import demand elasticities. On the basis of the estimated price elasticities a quantitative estimation is conducted on the welfare effects of wheat producers, consumers, the government and the country as a whole. The econometric results demonstrate that export quotas are not desirable for national welfare, and export taxes are sound alternatives.
